Monolithic CMOS mixer design & applications

The rapid growth of wireless communication systems, such as cellular, PCS, and Bluetooth, etc., has increased the demand for low-cost and high performance front-end receivers. The compound semiconductors, such as GaAs and HBT, have high performance for Radio Frequency(RF)applications. But they have principal drawbacks, low-yield, high-power, and high cost. Otherwise CMOS technology has great attraction, low-cost and high level integration with Intermediate Frequency (IF) and other transceiver building blocks. This work is carried out for mixer design. The mixer basic theory and advanced theory for nonlinearity are introduced and analyzed. And the theory is adopted in mixed application design; Image Rejection Mixer and Mod/demodulator. The modified image rejection mixer is analyzed comparing to conventional image rejection architecture and simulated. And the modulator and demodulator adopting the linearity compensation techniques and linear OTA are designed and simulated.
