Recent development of wired and wireless home network technologies realizes the environment of digital home. And the swift advances in communication protocols, digital audio/video processing, and Internet technologies have brought many different services from communication, digital broadcasting reception, and home automation applications into the digital home. With the combination of home gateway providing the home backbone network, home server operating as a service station, and IP STB rendering the audio/video contents, the home entertainment services converging digital broadcasting services, multimedia services, and media sharing services can be provided.
But without any consideration of QoS, it is impossible to introduce the home entertainment services which invoke heavy traffic not to cope with. Digital home service provider has not still discovered the profitable business model of home network. It is partly because home network can not make a convergence between communication and broadcasting in the home.
In order to overcome those insufficiency of today``s home network, this dissertation has intended to design the new home network system as a service station under which digital home is controlled, to provide the QoS guarantee mechanism in home network for video stream services with heavy traffic volume, and to devise the home convergence network based on the integrated home server.
The main topics of this dissertation are to design and implement the integrated home server, to present the switching structure enhancing the IPTV service, to analyze and simulate the performance of the QoS-enhanced switching, to design and implement the home MCU providing four-way video conferencing suitable for apartment complex area network, and to propose the QoS management mechanism for session-based video stream services in home convergence network and its performance analysis.
