Content validity and kirkpatrick's level-2 evaluation of the colonoscopy simulator with an improved haptic device = 개선된 햅틱장치를 장착한 대장내시경 시뮬레이터의 내용타당도 (Content Validity) 및 Kirkpatrick 분류 2수준 평가

This thesis investigates efficacy of the colonoscopy simulator equipped with an improved haptic device, according to the theories of content validity and Kirkpatrick’s level-2 evaluation. The colonoscopy simulator has a 2-DOF haptic device employing an actual colonoscope. A wire-driven mechanism is used for the translational force reflection. The roll torque is generated by a timing belt mechanism. Four deflection sensors are attached to the colonoscope distal end to monitor movement of the camera. Tack sensors are also attached to the air control switches of the colonoscope control-handle. Simulation by expert colonoscopists who have conducted more than 1000 episodes, is quantitatively profiled and analyzed to compare the simulation environment with the salient attributes of the actual colonoscopy, which are established in the literature. The content validity, as an assessment tool, is examined using questionnaire surveys to colonoscopy experts. The questionnaire contains twenty three closed-end questions using Likert scale, regarding the usefulness and realism of the simulator. The questionnaire also checks whether the necessary kinesthetic skills for colonoscopy are actually simulated. Non-clinical evaluation involving engineering students is performed according to Kirkpatrick’s level-2 evaluation framework. The results show that the developed colonoscopy simulator has improved the skills of the tested subjects.
