This study considers two problems relating to automated storage and retrieval systems. One is the analysis of dual bucket systems and the other is the determination of the optimal shape factors of single-rack systems.
For the first problem, expected travel times are developed based on the first come first service rule, then a heuristic procedure by retrieval order sequencing is presented which aims to improve the operation efficiency.
For the second, various configurations of the input and output locations are tested and the corresponding shape factors are obtained.
