This thesis considers three problems concerned with production and inspection scheduling in a deteriorating production system. The first problem is concerned with a joint control of production cycles (manufacturing quantities) and maintenance inspection where some constant time is allowed for repairing any failure of the system. The second problem considers the same joint control matter in a situation where inspection of the production process is imperfect. The third problem investigates the joint control subject in a situation where the production process can be improved. Production process improvement means that a restorative work makes defective rate decreased at a constant rate. For each of these problems, the optimal solution properties are characterized and then used in developing solution algorithms. The problem of simultaneously determining EMQ and the inspection schedules is solved by using an approximation to the cost function. In each problem, a simple relationship also developed to determine the effectiveness of maintenance inspection.
