A microprocessor-based control system that controls the temperatures of preheater and reactor of a chemical process to synthesize gasoline is designed. Also, for automated experimentation, an autosampler with one degree of freedom, and an autoinjector with three degrees of freedom are designed. In controlling the temperature systems, the state space approach is used to reduce the error at the outputs. The state space model of the system is based on the parameter estimation of the input-output variables of the system. This model is then converted into the discrete time version for computer control. Two 8-bit microprocessors and assembly language along with Fortran language are used to implement control algorithm.
