In recent years, a number of high speed digital signal processing devices or general microprocessors, and high capacity memory devices have been developed with the aid of VLSI technology. Hence the trend in the design of image processing and graphics workstation is to use high speed signal digital processing processors or general microprocessors, and large amount of memory devices. Based on this tendency, we have designed low hardware cost and high performance workstation. To achieve high performance image processing and graphics workstations, we use parallel processing scheme which is a growing technology with the potential to give virtually unlimited computational power, provided that effective parallel software development and application techniques and tools can be produced to be able to take advantage of such potential.
