Recently, with the development of SiC-based semiconductor which has low switching loss, the switching frequency of the power factor correction (PFC) converters tends to be increased to reduce the size of passive components. However, the increased switching frequency makes the converters generate the electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise and it has negative effects on other devices connected with grid system. In this thesis, the study of spread spectrum modulation (SSM) is performed to reduce the EMI noise without any additional hardware. SSM is the modulation method which reduce the peak value of EMI noise at specific frequency by spreading the noise around specific frequency range. In this thesis, we optimize SSM parameters including switching frequency’s waveform shape, amplitude, and frequency to minimize EMI noise, and then verify performance by comparing with conventional modulation method.
