Experimetal investigation was performed on the extraction of amines from aqueous amine solution by emulsion liquid membrane technique employing batch operation. The effects of system varibles, such as feed concentration, film thickness of oil phase, concentration of hydrochloric acid solution, mixing intensity, temperature and membrane phase viscosity were analyzed. A mathematical modeling developed for a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion drop was found in a reasonable correlation with experiments. The model takes account of the internal mass transfer in emulsion drop, i.e., the diffusion in the emulsion phase and that through the peripheral thin oil layer, and both the phase equilibrium and reversible reaction. According to the model, all parameters required for a computer simulation for the extraction of amines can be estimated from the diameter of emulsion drop and internal water droplets.
