The project comprises the "Process Design" of a complete acrylic fiber manufacturing process, starting with domestically available raw materials and proceeding to be finished staple fiber. Process design works should be initiated by the accumulation of fundamental data such as final product specification, raw materials properties and availability, reaction kinetics, processing data etc. Spinning group have taken a general specification of acrylic fiber. And the objective of our project is focused on the process development for upgrading the acrylic fiber processes which are used in many company. Therefore we have to understand the existing acrylic fiber processes and find the points we can upgrade, while still producing a product of equal or better quality. The major efforts of the spinning group are: a) The selection of fiber specification b) Accumulation of fundamental data from patents \& references c) Experiments for confirming selected data d) Design and operation of a mini-plant for data collection to scale-up and e) Design of a complete acrylic fiber spinning process This report covers the general specification of acrylic fiber, laboratory experiment result, mini-plant design, mini-plant operation, scale-up design, capital \& manufacturing costs and economic evaluation.
