The introduction of the autonomous vehicle opened up opportunities to explore new infotainment in-cars. The need to understand and explore future design has increased more than ever. However, design methods are still limited to support designers to understand future scenarios, especially in the in-car infotainment systems. Our goal is to help designers effectively envision future car infotainment in the early design process phase. In this paper, we present a collaborative design tool to support envisioning autonomous vehicle infotainment. The collaborative design tool supports a co-design session using a car mockup prototype and AR projection tool. This method allows designers and users to collaborate in the design process to generate, experience easily rapidly, and iterate on use-case scenarios. We conducted three co-design sessions to explore the values of the collaborative design tool. Based on a qualitative study, we suggest that a collaborative design tool can help understand and approach autonomous vehicle experiences from the initial stage of design development. The result of this study could enhance investigations of the issues involved with autonomous vehicle infotainment design and be a stepping stone for the future development of emerging technologies.
