dc.description.abstract | A braille system for the visually impaired people is valuable for acquiring information by using the tactile sense of the fingertips, but the information gap with the non-disabled people is getting larger due to the low utilization rate. Since existing braille devices have problems in terms of portability, cost, and utilization, it is necessary to develop a new braille device that can improve the accessibility of the braille. In this paper, a braille display mod-ule has been proposed which is based on electromagnetism principle, and possibility of it as a portable braille pad has been shown. A cam-shaped spin structure is applied as a method of minimizing power consumption while satisfying the braille standard, and equally spaced braille pins provide two-dimensional information on the display. The dimensions of solenoid are optimized to drive the braille pins with maximum efficiency. The elec-tromagnetic Finite Element Method (FEM) predicts the force tendency between the magnetic bodies and con-firms the operation possibility. Through the analysis, the braille display module is designed and fabricated, and the operability test confirms the applicability as a braille device for the visually impaired people. | - |
