Both amyloid-β (Aβ) and metal ions are implicated in the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Research efforts elucidating the pathogenic roles of these two biological components denote a connection between them. This highlight review presents the current understanding of Aβ and metal ions in AD and their relationship prompting a hybrid concept: metal-bound Aβ (metalAβ).
