Parkinson’s disease patients shows mental disorder which is distinctive with other disease symptom caused by neuronal loss. To clarify mental disorder, using DJ-1 gene, one of the major Parkinson’s disease early onset recessive gene, transgenic (TG) or knock-out (KO) animal models, proceeded phenotype screening. Through screening, abnormality of mental parameter, especially anxiety, and hormone level change were de-tected. DJ-1 TG animals shows increase of anxiety and decrease of depression. In addition, based on the fact that DJ-1 function is conjugated with Redox detoxification pathway and defense mechanism, Glyoxalase 1, which is one of the essential enzyme for redox detoxification, gene KO animal model experiments also proceed-ed. Through glyoxalase 1 KO mouse experiments, anxiety parameter shifting was also measured. In addition, the intensity of the symptom was changed depending on the level of in-vivo Reactive Carbonyl Species (RCS). Therefore, there is possibility that Parkinson’s disease psychiatric symptoms are conjugated with Redox mole-cule detoxification. By realizing appropriate regulation of redox system and RCS target neuro-receptor, effec-tive treatment method for Parkinon’s disease psychiatric symptom can be developed.
