The dynamic charging electric vehicle (DC-EV) has the potential to revolutionize the modern transportation system. These vehicles employ electromagnetic induction through power tracks buried beneath the road. In contrast to the conventional electric vehicles, which require a certain charging downtime, the DC-EVs remotely transfer electric power from the buried inductive cables during their operation. The commercial success and installation costs of this innovative transportation system depend on the proper allocation of the power tracks and the battery size. The system has to guarantee operational stability, while requiring the minimum installation costs. This complex DC-EV system is expressed in terms of a highly non-linear, multi-dimensional problem, which is solved using particle swarm optimization (PSO). In this paper, we introduce a DC-EV system with multiple loops, and analyze several optimization issues. The usefulness of PSO for solving complex problems is also discussed. This paper also includes a numerical example of a DC-EV system, which is solved through an adjusting process for the PSO algorithm. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of PSO for solving complex problems.
