PERIOD DOUBLING AND CHAOS IN A DIRECTLY MODULATED LASER DIODE

It is shown theoreretically that the directly modulated laser diode, with the modulation frequency of its injection current compatable to the relaxation oscillation frequency, exhibit period doubling route to chaos as the modulation index of current is increased. The effect of spontaneous emission factor on the chaotic behavior in the laser diode ic also studied.
