The Fusion Technology of Solid State Lighting and Wireless Communications: Visible Light Communications

The high speed data transmission is possible by using an optical wireless communication technology. High brightness light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) are already used for several applications and it is foreseen that they will replace conventional lighting sources in the next decade. We will concentrate on a feasibility of visible light communications at the viewpoint of both lighting equipment properties and performance as an optical wireless communication. It was found that the bandwidth of the optical wireless communication systems using LED technology is high in comparison to radio frequency based solutions.
