Since its foundation in 1979, KAIST’s Aerospace Engineering Department has made collective efforts to maintain our leadership in national aerospace engineering programs by providing high quality education and by contributing to advancements in aerospace technologies. Despite our short history, we have made significant progress in aerospace education and research, and our reputation for excellence has been well recognized by academic institutions and industries worldwide. Our new curriculum extends traditional aerospace education to emerging disciplines to make our education globally competitive. Our long-term research vision largely reflects system and design-oriented disciplines, the mainstream of worldwide aerospace research.
After achieving significant progress during the past 30 years, we are now facing a pivotal moment in the future of aerospace education and research. With recent renovations in our department, we are preparing for the future. Our need to assume a leadership role is not solely driven by domestic requirements. Rapidly expanding rival national aerospace programs, especially in national security issues, require us to build a wider vision and mission to contribute to the world. We are also considering global issues such as environment, energy, and sustainability that can be linked to aerospace engineering disciplines in a synergetic way.
Excellence in education and research will continue in the future. Active participation in national aerospace programs and collaboration with various partners will make our program highly competitive in this global era.
