A bi-directional passive optical network for CDMA personal communication service is proposed and demonstrated. The relaxed dynamic range requirements of CDMA signals allows the use of a double-star architecture. This network could be implemented cost-effectively by using one 1.3 mu m Fabry-Perot laser for the downlink and 1.3 mu m LEDs for the uplink.
